The northern territory is not just the best place to catch a Barramundi however, Darwin fishing northwest territory are also home to unusual Blue water fishing if one knows where and when and how in order to be successful. Known as the Tiwi Islands, Bathurst and Melville islands are popular destinations for one day or two day trips from Darwin. The elusive barramundi, one of Australia's finest eating fish abound in the waters in this area. Growing unto 60 kgs they are predators, and hence are the sought after game fish.

Internationally recognized as a great sport and game fish the barramundi are found widely throughout the Top End of the Northwest Territories. Fishing's all time high is achieved when you cast a lure into snags and have it engulfed in a jarring strike by a cart wheeling barramundi.

The Darwin harbor is divided into four major areas; the East arm, West arm, Middle arm and the Elizabeth River. The middle and east arm are the popular spots for anglers because of the location and the protection from wind. They also provide the perfect habitats for the hungry barramundi since the middle and east arm of the Darwin harbor have a large range of rock bars and snake drains.
